CHARTER TRIUMPH IN THE BAG, NEXT UP THE BAND CONCERT

Our 58th Charter, celebrating the Club's founding was an all-round success enjoyed by all who attended. Guest speaker, Harry Gration must have been the main reason for an almost full house including many invited guests and an impressive array of visiting Club Presidents and members from 13 Clubs, including Koh Samui, Thailand. Harry Gration shone as a brave and entertaining speaker with a major operation not long behind him. After taking time out to circulate tables he recounted a string of humorous episodes from his varied broadcasting career. District Governor Willie Clark continued on his iconoclastic path targeting the organisation of both Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland as well as Rotary International. President Barry ably summarised the Aireborough Club's current buoyant state, celebrated the range of its achievements andoutlined the challenges it still faces. Special praise must go to Philip Livesey standing in as Toastmaster and reacting faultlessly to an environment and script that changed by the minute as the evening wore on. Soon after the Charter we have the challenge of our main fund-raising event the Band Concert. The main ingredients will be Frank Renton, the complete professional introducing and conducting the evening with humour and a fund of knowledge. His chosen band this year is again the Hepworth Band who will be arriving fresh from the British Brass Band Championships. This will be their 3rd appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in five years, one of four bands representing Yorkshire. Already with a record contribution from our advertisers all we now have to do is ensure we provide ticket sales matching that performance
