Walking Club.

.

The Kirkham and Rural Fylde Walking Club aims are to encourage fellowship between new and existing members, to share friendship between neighbouring Rotary clubs, to use the walking opportunity for photography and lets not forget the exercise of our four legged friends as Rotary dogs are also welcome. Routes in general will be circular and a distance to suit everyone. It is not intended for walks to be a hike but to enjoy each other's company. Walk's will usually start and end at a local hostelry so there will be plenty of opportunity for food and "refreshment".

Walks of course are not only limited to the Fylde but further afield.  Upcoming events will be posted on the Kirkham and Rural Fylde Rotary Club website and on our online Calendar.

The Fylde (/ˈfld/) is a coastal plain in western Lancashire, England. It is roughly a 13-mile (20-kilometre) square-shapedpeninsula, bounded by Morecambe Bay to the north, the Ribble estuary to the south, the Irish Sea to the west, and theBowland hills to the east. The eastern boundary is approximately the location of the M6 motorway.

The area lies on Namurian and to a lesser extent Millstone Grit Group geographic substructure, part of an extended lithostratigraphy of northern England and parts of Wales.[1] The Namurian is itself a subdivision of the Carboniferous period, during which a large forest covered most of Northern Europe; the remnants of this forest today include the Forest of Bowland. This geographic substructure results today in a coast-to-coast geographical area known as the Pennine basin, of which the Fylde within the Bowland basin forms its western edge.[2]
