The Rotary Club of Alford and District plans to deliver the following objectives during the 2016/2017 Rotary Year. 


The activities will support, challenge and encourage children at both the Primary and Academy stages of education and to seek to grow the beneficial impact of Rotary on their lives and will seek ways to encourage and cater for our youth in all Rotary activities.

  • Primary School – Club will support the Primary Schools Quiz and offer attendance to all schools in the Alford Academy catchment area; ca. 15+ teams enter each year. Plan to hold before Easter 2017. 
  • Rotakids– Support and consolidate our established Rotakids Clubs at Tough, Craigevar, Midmar and Tullynessle Primary Schools; establish new Rotakids Clubs as agreed and supported by the Rotary Club.  Seek to strengthen links between Rotakids and Alford Academy particularly for those moving up to the Academy.
  • Alford Academy– building on the success of previous years we will offer support to the Academy through a number of initiatives including:-
  • RYLA – based on success from previous years, Club to support two RYLA candidates.
  • Young Musician – support the established competition organized by the Interact Club.
  • Leadership Awards – support Leadership Awards for Head/Depute Boy and Girl - June 2017
  • Interact – Club inaugurated on Wednesday 20thJanuary 2010;
  • Support Interact Club in fundraising and development opportunities; seek to ensure succession planning in place to ensure continued success; invite Interact Club to Rotary meetings at beginning and end of School session; reinforce link with Rotakids Schools
  • Potential for Enterprise Activity that may require seed funding from the Rotary Club
  • Seek to align Interact and Rotary Club fundraising opportunities e.g. Santas Sleigh
  • Others
  • Hold Young Generations on 4thOctober; attended by Rotakids, Interact and RYLA
  • Interact Club won District Interact Award
  • Tullynessle Rotakids won District Youth Award
  • Support other Rotary Young initiatives e.g. Young Writer should there be interest from Primaries and Academy; Jennifer reviewing entries to Young Writers Competition
  • Support Grampian Transport Museum Youth initiatives e.g. Young Engineers and Junior Driving School
  • Literacy Award – targeting Gold Literacy Award
