Service to the Community

Important as fellowship and internationalism are, Rotarians have a more serious purpose. The motto of Rotary is “Service above Self” and our primary object is to encourage and foster the ideal of service. In our Gillingham Club this takes many forms. For example, each year we raise money by driving Santa’s Sleigh around the streets of Gillingham to the delight of children and parents!

All the monies raised are donated to worthy local charities.  We invite representatives of those charities to visit us which gives us an insight into the sort of ways the funds are used.

So far this year we have given contributions totalling £4,525 to the following organisations; Kent Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust, The Robert Napier Secondary School, Napier Primary Acadamy, The Riverside Primary School, Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Unit at Medway Hospital and Friends of Wisdom Hospice.

We also organise money raising activities amongst our members to enable us to give additional contributions to international charities such as Water Aid, Sightsavers, and Hospices and Hospitals in Kent.

Throughout the year we will make further donations to other local charities.
