Banyan Tree project 2012-13

In Rotary Year 2012-13, The Rotary Club of High Suffolk will be supporting the Friends of the Banyan Tree (www.thebanyantree.org.uk), a Suffolk based charity which addresses the needs of extremely poor and disadvantaged families in Kerala, Southern India.

Summary

The Banyan Tree charity was selected after a visit by a member of RCHS, who saw at first hand the direct impact that they were having on the lives of families in the region.

The charity focuses on helping people, particularly women and children, to raise their economic status, though training and employment; education; help with housing; and advice on nutrition and health.

With the support of Rotary, and a number of respected companies and individuals from Suffolk and beyond, the charity will build and equip a new Community Centre in the village of Idinjar, Kerala which will provide educational, medical, social and employment facilities.

High Suffolk is partnered with 5 other Rotary clubs, in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Poland, and these clubs will each be contributing
