Thu, Oct 20th 2011 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

This week the monthly business meeting of The Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club was held at the Westlands Hotel on Thursday. The 27 members and three guests enjoyed the usual excellent meal before the main part of the meeting started.

President Rod Jones was delighted to welcome Claire Reid as a new member of the Club. Mary Fraser proposed Claire for membership, and in her introductory talk gave the members and guests a brief resume of Claire's professional background.

Claire, who lives in Doune, is a Human Resources Specialist. Having graduated from the University of London with a degree in Economics; she has worked in the HR field both within industry and local government. In 2000, she set up her own business to provide specialist services in the many and varied fields of HR, and again has been working both for industry and local government.

Having completed the induction procedure, Claire thanked the President and Mary for their good wishes, and also thanked the members for the friendship and kindness she had experienced at her visits to the Club before this meeting, and said she was looking forward to joining with the membership in their many activities to help not only the local community but also worldwide.

The business meeting endorsed the reports from the various committees, and heard a report from President Rod on the recent visit made by him, Senior Vice President Iain Smith, and Secretary Graham Russell to the District Council meeting, which was held in Inverness the previous Sunday.

Bill Sharpe brought the meeting up to date with the progress towards the Christmas Concert to be held in the Cathedral on 17th December. In addition to allocating a number of tickets to be sold by each member, he informed the meeting that the tickets were now available from Mailers Solicitors in Bridge of Allan, and from The Scottish International Relief Shop and Smallprint in Dunblane. They are priced at £10 for adults and at £6 for pensioners and children under the age of 16.

Finally, Stuart Brown informed the meeting that the Charity Auction to be held in the Victoria Halls on the 12th November has been very successful in gathering together a wide and varied range of items to go under the auctioneer's gavel. Details of these will not only be available shortly as a catalogue, but also will appear on the Club's website then click on Events, to enable any member of the public who cannot attend the auction on the 12th to submit a bid for any of the items on offer.
