Along the Edge - 2011

The first Sunday in September is the traditional day to hold Rotary's sponsored walk, Along the Edge. After a damp start the weather turned warm, anoraks were removed and sun tan cream liberally applied. At the end of the morning 57 walkers had signed in for one or both of the two 4 mile loops which visited the Kilcott valley heading north or Bodkin Hazel Wood to the south. Splendid views across the Severn into Wales were enjoyed on stretches of the Cotswold Way.

The Beaufort Inn, Hawkesbury Upton was again base for the event and provided a welcome BBQ at midday for the returning walkers into the afternoon. The main charity for Along the Edge this year was Hop, Skip and Jump which provides for families that have children with special needs from birth onwards. In addition Rotary's International projects benefited as well as charities chosen by the walker themselves (Cancer Research, St Peter's Hospice, children in Nepal, Motor Neurone Disease).

Rotary President Anthony Bourne who walked with his grandson and family commented " This was one of the best walks I remember. Good weather, a happy crowd of walkers and a really enjoyable lunchtime BBQ together at the end. We have raised
