Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge for Polio Eradication.
Our aim is to eradicate polio everywhere in the world. After 20 years of hard work Rotary and its partners are on the brink of ridding the world of this tenacious disease. Rotary is looking to raise $200 million to match the $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will go directly to support immunization campaigns in countries where polio continues to infect and paralyse children.
Today only 4 countries still suffer from the scourge of Polio (India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan) with less than 2,000 cases reported annually. But until the disease is eliminated entirely, it can quickly spread again.. Since 1985 Rotarians have helped to immunize over 2 billion children and we now have an historic opportunity to finish the job!
