A small band of Rotary Club of Billericay members, a Town Council representative, parents and young helpers gathered in the Children's Memorial Garden in Lake Meadows on Saturday, October 16 to plant out a thousand purple crocus bulbs.

This was part of the national Focus on Crocus campaign to highlight the work of Purple Pinkie in eradicating polio in parts of Africa and elsewhere.  After some much-needed spade work to ease the dry soil, drills were made and marked out and willing hands spread the bulbs in a little over an hour much to the fascination of the many dog-walkers and passers-by in the park, all of whom, hopefully, will enjoy some purple splendour in the early Spring.

A plaque will be placed on the site at the end of the garden opposite the golf course to mark the Rotary's Club's contribution to the campaign.
