RIC '07 - Le Vesinet, Paris, France June 2007

Our Rotary International Club (RIC) meeting for 2007 was held on June 1-3 at Le Vesinet, France. A fantastic turnout - some 20+ members and partners travelling by coach and train to Le Vesinet, which is on the west side of Paris, to visit our French Rotary friends and meet up with the other club members and affiliates from Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and Poland.
After arrival at the hotel, we were whisked off to the "Ile des Impressionistes" - an island in the Seine much favoured for outdoor fun by Parisiens around the end of the 19th century - where Le Vesinet had arranged a great reception, some members in period dress.

After looking around the museum (shown in some of the pictures) devoted to boating and which includes the balcony featured in Renoir's Le Déjeuner des Canotiers (The Boating Party), we took to the water ourselves for a trip down the Seine. Then back to the hotel , before returning to the island in the evening for dinner and songs led by the Jean-Pierre and friends.
PS A few extras from Barry - including a guess-the-head competition...
Saturday was a trip to Versailles, an incredible and beautiful place. A great lunch at Versailles included more singing. Rotarians (eventually !) found the bus to the AGM, whilst partners stayed on.
Saturday evening was the Gala Dinner in the Park of Saint Cloud (more adventures with the coach!), more singing. What could High Suffolk offer? Something intellectual, perhaps. VP-elect Barry solved the problem, and "Ten Green Bottles" (followed by an impromptu conga) did the trick.

On Sunday we said our goodbye's. Following Arthur's suggestion, the coach party took a trip around Paris, where we said hello to the Effel Tower, and goodbye to John and Susie who were going off to Malta. Then back on the road, via (of course) the wine & beer supermarket at Calais, arriving back at the MillHouse before midnight.
An excellent trip, and many thanks to Harry for doing most of the organisation. We're already looking forward to RIC '08 in the Netherlands...
PS: Some additions from Barry - including a "Mystery Head" competition...
