President's Night

Fri, Jun 18th 2010 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

at Burton Farmhouse Galmpton

Rotarians and their guests were entertained by an inspiring talk given by Vice Admiral Sir Jonathan Tod KCB CBE on his experiences as chairman of the Sea Cadets Association.

The Rotary Club of Kingsbridge Estuary has been honoured with the grant by Rotary International of a Significant Achievement Award for its Heartstart project.

John Kenny, the President of Rotary International for 2009-10 said "The Significant Achievement Award recognizes outstanding Rotary Club projects that address the needs of the local community. These exemplary service programmes provide models for future activities and inspiration for other Rotary Clubs." He went on to say that the project represented the very best work in District 1170 and the Rotary world and the efforts of the Rotary Club of Kingsbridge Estuary guaranteed that Rotary's tradition of dedicated service would long continue.

A certificate of the award was presented to the Club at its annual President's Night dinner by District Governor Jeremy Tucker and in accepting the award the Club's President Brian Sheppard recognized the efforts of the project's organizers John Miller and Graham Worrall and all the Rotarians involved in the scheme.

At the same dinner Rotarian Roger Anstey was accorded the highest accolade in Rotary by being made a Paul Harris Fellow.

The Heartstart project is an initiative coordinated by the British Heart Foundation to teach members of the public what to do in a life-threatening emergency. Members of the Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club teach local clubs and small groups simple skills that can save lives, such as performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), dealing with choking and serious bleeding and helping someone who may be having a heart attack.
