Royal approval for Falkirk’s proud
record
Fit for a King it is said— and fit for a King it was — in fact two Kings.
That’s the verdict of the 138 Rotarians and guests at Falkirk’s 90th Charter Dinner. It was a fitting end to a busy day for RGBI President Peter King and his wife Di.
President Robert Spears welcomed everyone and Peter King paid tribute to the Club’s sterling work. “You have been central to the community for 90 years,” he said, adding “You made a good start in contributing to the repair of the Falkirk Steeple in 1928. Other projects include birthday food parcels to the elderly, support for the Hospice and your Anniversary Concert.” He concluded: “The long and creative life of the Falkirk Club is an inspiration to us all. “
DG Alistair echoed RGBI President Peter ‘s tribute. He highlighted the Club’s contribution in providing four DGs, one of which, Festus Moffat Snr, went on to be treasurer of Rotary GB&I. He said: “Your work and engagement in the community is a living testimony to what the members have done, do and will continue to do quietly and steadfastly.” He concluded: “We look forward to returning in 10 years to celebrate your 100th anniversary!” Edinburgh President John Paterson thanked Peter and Alistair for their warm remarks and also paid tribute to the Club. President Peter was presented with a Quaich to remind him of his new friends in Falkirk.
Entertainment was provided by Eric Davidson who covered a metered mile as he kept his audience amused with tales of, among other things, his childhood in Newtongrange.
