Rotary Club of Jersey is working in partnership with the Sisters at Fr Cyprian High School in Khipro
Help was given to poor village women who were discrimated against on the grounds of their sex and membership of a minority group. 48 sewing machines were provided, together with training on their use. This will not only enable these women to make clothes for their own families, but also allow them to start their own small business.
Education provides a ladder out of poverty. The Sisters run 20 schools in rural Khipro to help educate the poorest children. More female teachers were needed to support this initiative and Rotary is financing the cost of training 7 new female teachers over a 3 year period. This covers all initial training and then ongoing development for two days a month.
Interestingly through Caritas, the School has also participated in programmes related to promoting Peace within and between Communities. A subject dear to Rotary's heart.
