Sudbury Open Gardens 2016

This year the sun shone for Rotary Open Gardens 2016 and some 300 people enjoyed exploring 12 local gardens.

A wide range of gardens were available, from large and small riverside gardens, gardens with shrubs, perennials, trees, bulbs, water features and wildlife areas to patio gardens and even gardens with bantams roaming freely and sheds with model railway displays. There were town gardens and the peaceful Red House garden to the wonderful natural Eden Rose Coppice – something for everyone!


Mayor Jack Owen and his wife Maureen officially opened the Rotary Open Gardens by cutting a pink ribbon at The Club President's garden. Mayor Jack stated that he felt a garden is an important aspect for everyone in their life. Whether people work in the garden, explore gardens, are interested in garden design or plants, or simply have a garden to sit in and enjoy. Gardening brings people together and gives people an opportunity to exchange ideas and come together in friendship.


Certainly there was plenty of ‘garden chatter’ over the weekend around the gardens and lots of enjoying of cream teas, cakes, sausages, tea and wine and soft drinks in many of the gardens. The raffle provided an added interest, as well as the display about Rotary and the Charities supported by the Club in Open Gardens in Gill and Mike’s garden.


We are still collecting the monies from the weekend, but to date we have £2,200 and still counting!!
