Come and join us for a friendly and sociable walk in Wensleydale in aid of charities. There is a choice of two circular walks, one a 23 mile challenge and a shorter one of 12 miles, both starting and finishing in Leyburn. There are liquid refreshments at various checkpoints in both walks, while warm food is provided at the halfway point on the longer walk. All walkers receive a hot two course meal at the finish in Wensleydale School from 12MD to 5pm . Showers are also available. The routes are well sign-posted and marshalled, so no one is likely to get lost! Have a look at Views on Wensleydale Wander routes. Click on Map for a map showing all the Short Walk and most of the Long Walk, and Map 2 for the rest. A Detailed Route Description is also available. A GPX File is available by email request to webmaster@wensleydale.rotary1040.org

10/4/19 NB We have had to change the Short route after Wensley bridge because the path on the south bank has fallen into the river. so the pathway is temporarily blocked! The new route means crossing Wensley bridge and taking the path on the north bank of the river, crossing Low Lane, where there will be a checkpoint, before rejoining the old route before Leyburn. Click on Short Route 2019 for a map. I have also created a new GPX file for it. This has shortened the route by about half a mile, so the distance is now 11.7miles. Our apologies for this enforced change, which does NOT affect the Long route.

Both Walks begin at 9.00am in Grove Square, though walkers first gather for registration at Wensleydale School, where car-parking is available. The walk is limited to a maximum 8 hours, and all entries should be received prior to the event. Entries on the day subject to limitation on numbers not reached- a note will be placed on the website if such has occurred. All finishers will receive a certificate.

The Entrance Fee is £12.00 per walkerif paid by 5th April by mail or 12th April 6pm by on-line entry (£13 after that), with all proceeds going to charities. To enter, you can either click on Entry Form to download one, or you can use online booking

NB- Under 18's are welcome when accompanied by an adult but On Line booking is only available for over 18 year olds. Please use the downloadable Entry Form route for anyone under 18.

The principal charity for the event in 2019 is Yorkshire Cancer Research. Sponsorship for this or other charities is encouraged but not essential.  Forms for Sponsorship can be downloaded by clicking on Sponsorship forms.

We were pleased with the increased entry for our second Saunter, particularly how much people enjoyed the route. So the 2024 Saunter will be over the same route.
