Sponsored Walk with Gordon Henderson

Fri, Sep 23rd 2016 at 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

A sponsored walk in aid of general charitable funds following the old railway line

We are organising a sponsored walk on Friday September 23rd, starting at 2pm from the car park below Brack’s Farm (the one for Auckland Way).

The walk will be about 6 miles and Gordon Henderson will lead the walk and will be talking about points of interest during the walk.

We will be departing Bracks Farm car Park heading along the line till we reach Bishops Bridge. We will leave the line at this point into top of the Bishops Park then into Binchester fort area. On the way to the park he will be talking about local points of interest and facts about the rail line . Once we leave the rail line the talk will then change to the history of the immediate area from Roman times to present day. Once in the Fort area information will be given about the lodge etc. As we return along the railway line the Westerton side of the line will be the main topic

There is a good article by Durham County Council about Auckland Way Railway Path that this is a part of here

Members of the public are invited to join in and we would be happy if they made a modest donation. There is no need to book - they can just turn up on the day.
Money raised will go towards our general charities funds.
If anyone would like to participate and also get some sponsors, please e-mail Keith Black for a sponsor sheet, at k.black@sky.com .
