Tree of Light 2014 Switch On - 5.30pm Sainsbury's Oswestry

Sat, Nov 29th 2014 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Support the Rotary Club of Oswestry Tree of Light fundraising campaign 2014. Tree of Light Switch On by legendary Welsh, Wrexham and Everton goalkeeper Dai Davies.

'Tree of Light' - Christmas 2014

Let a light shine for someone special this Christmas.

Christmas is a time to celebrate with loved ones, look back fondly over happy years and to remember those we have loved and lost. For many it can also be a time of sadness, when the loss of a loved one is most keenly felt, a time when we particularly remember those people whom we love but, sadly, see no longer.

But the Tree of Light is not only about remembering those we have lost. It is also about celebrating, a time to be glad and grateful for all of the gifts we have received and to remember how good life has been to us. A wedding anniversary, an engagement, a special birthday, a treasured friendship, the birth of a child; all of these things we can celebrate by making a dedication on the Tree of Light.

Oswestry Rotary Club is thrilled to announce that the Tree of Light this year will be switched on at 5.30 pm on Saturday November 29th by Dai Davies, legendary goalkeeper for Wales, Swansea, Wrexham and Everton. Although he played his last game in 1985 Dai has been busy since then, first as a Welsh-speaking football commentator and for the last 20 years running a natural healing centre in Llangollen.  Dai uses different relaxation and therapeutic techniques such as Pilates and Bowen, also stretching exercises and massage; he believes in this hectic world people need to get in touch with themselves through mindfulness: body, mind, spirit and soul are all connected.

We are also delighted to announce that with the generous permission of the store, our 'Tree of Light' will be situated outside the Sainsbury's store, Oswestry once again this year.

Sainsbury's have kindly agreed to provide mince pies and mulled wine to people attending the switching on of the lights.

We are also pleased to have community carol singing led by The Coppice Singers accompanied by the Ifton Colliery Band.

Rotarians will be available for people who wish to make a donation in memory of a loved one, or in celebration of a special occasion.

The charities to be supported include:  Hope House Hospice, The County Air Ambulance Trust, The Cricket Federation for People with Disabilities, North Shropshire Special Olympics, The Stroke Club and Rotary Good Causes.
