National Citizen Service is a once-in-a-lifetime part residential experience for 15 to 17 year olds. It helps them build skills for work and life, undertaking new skills , making friends and contibuting to thier community.

Hilary and Steve visited our meeting to give us an update on the work they have been doing in Gambia. To date they have consolidated the 5 schools they have built which are populated by 750 children, The focus is now on building and equipping libraries

We are delighted to welcome Monica Crina Adriana Oltean-Dumbrava (Crina). She is Professor of Sustainable Built Environment Engineering University of Bradford and is passionate about learning and passing on her knowlegde.

To bee or not to bee was definitely the question when Keith Hebden caused a buzz at our regular breakfast meeting. Keith gave us a masterclass in all aspects of bee-keeping as he showed us his colony of bees. The samples of local honey were also delicious

Join us at the Storehouse for the first Big Bradford Soup Event.
A pay as you feel event with a difference. Money raised will be given to a local cause voted for by the audience who will have listened to 3 x 4 minute pitches.

This week we had a suprise visitor. It was Marilyn Monroe (aka Juli) who sang happy birthday to our President, President Gary and gave him a cake. It was a lovely suprise for all of us!!

A really great night with over 70 guests enjoying tasting and guessing the names of a wide range of wines. The event was hosted by Martinez wines at the Midland Hotel. Waiting to find out how much we have raised for One in a Million Children's Charity.

We extended a warm welcome to our District Governor, Hazel Haas. She updated us about what was happening in the district, information about the expansion of District 1040, which will take in 24 clubs from District 1270 with effect from 1 July 2016

Bronte member Juli Thompson described her exciting project called the Storehouse. Juli recycles fresh food in a number of innovative ways and works with Community Centres to help feed a large number of people in need in Bradford District.

The speakers were Syima Aslam and Irna Qureshi who are the Directors of Culture Squared and organisers of the Bradford Literacy Festival. They spoke about their future plans and the amazing growth both domestically and Internationally of the Festival.

Jeroen van den Bergh is the Operations Director of the Nepal Trust and is based in Kathmandu. He spoke about the earthquake and Rotary's response as well as the ongoing work of the Trust. Our Rotary District 1040 has close links with Nepal.
