After a highly successful year Tony Ridge has handed over the Presidential chain of office to his successor, Eric Dance. It sounds like we're in for another action packed year!

Mon 23rd June 2014 Working with Erdington Foodbank

Trussell Trust Foodbanks provide a minimum of three days' emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK. In 2013/2014 foodbanks gave three days' emergency food to 913,138 people nationwide including 330,205 children.

Tue 17th June 2014 Al and Pam Sutton; Troop Aid

Al and Pam will be returning to provide us with an update on the work of Troop Aid, the charity that supports our injured troops by providing the basic essentials. Guests welcome.

Wed 11th June 2014 Kids Out

A national event for disabled school age children, to give them a free day of fun and happiness. We have been active supporters for many years, working closely with staff and pupils at Wilson Stuart School in Erdington and this year took 23 young people.

Incoming President Eric Dance will be outlining his plans for the 2014/15 Rotary year.

Sun 18th May 2014 President's Luncheon

Our President's Luncheon was held at Wishaw Country Sports, Grounds Farm, Wishaw with entertainment provided by the Black Country duo Dandy. The raffle raised £500 for Troop Aid, the charity that supports our injured troops.

Tue 13th May 2014 Keith McDavid, ShelterBox

Patricia Garcia from Lloyds Banking Group heard about ShelterBox at one of our meetings and persuaded her colleagues to donate a box to help victims of natural disasters. We were able to see one of the tents at our meeting.

Tue 29th April 2014 With Birmingham Mail Wish Campaign and The Norman Laud Association

With collected campaign tokens and matched Rotary funding a group of lesser mobile children can go on holiday to a caravan resort in Lancashire in August. The charity is equipped with a specialist team and transport in place.

This year our Easter bunnies were at Asda in Great Barr and they collected £412.87. Thanks to everyone who supported us - shoppers and the supermarket, from which a number of local charities will benefit. Rotary - we're for communities.

Mon 7th April 2014 Rotary Schools Football Competition: Up to and including Year 8

This is the second year the Club has run this competition.
80 pupils in 10 teams from 6 schools saw Arthur Terry beat North Birmingham Academy 3-0 in a very exciting game. Thanks to the BMET Football Foundation scholars for their help on the night.

Tue 1st April 2014 Action Kenya

We are pleased to continue our support for the school in Gede. Every child in the school now gets to sit down at meal times! The dining hall has a total of 13 tables, enough to accommodate 8 children each. It will reduce potential food contamination.

Mon 31st March 2014 Rotary Schools Football Competition: Up to and including Year 6.

A football competition now in its third year, 100 pupils in 12 teams from 8 schools took part. Coppice B beat Water Orton 2-0 in a very exciting final. Thanks to the BMET Football Foundation scholars for their invaluable help on the night.

Fri 28th March 2014 Inner Wheel Club of Wylde Green - Wheels Festival

We were delighted to support our Inner Wheel colleagues at Wilson Stuart School in Erdington marking 90 years of the Inner Wheel movement nationally and 80 years within our District, raising funds for a trike for the school.

The Trussell Trust works to empower local people to combat poverty and exclusion by providing practical help through sustainable projects. We will be hearing particularly about the work of the Trust in relation to the Erdington Food Bank.

Mon 17th February 2014 Visit to the Birmingham Proof House

The Birmingham Proof House was established in 1813, by Act of Parliament. It was requested and obtained by the Birmingham Trade at its own expense. Almost 200 years later the purpose of the Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House remains essentially unchanged.

A competition for young people between the ages of 11 and 18 run by Rotary nationwide, to help them develop confidence in their own ability to speak in front of an audience, won locally by the Year 11 team from Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls.

Tue 19th November 2013 ShelterBox humanitarian aid to the Philippines

The Club has funded two ShelterBoxes for the areas worst affected by the recent typhoon, providing water, tents, clothing, blankets and cooking utensils to the victims. Each box contains survival equipment to help communities through the coming months.

World Challenge provides educational expeditions in the developing world which teach life skills and expand minds outside the classroom. Will will be speaking about his student travel itinerary that aims to foster team spirit and leadership skills.

Mon 11th November 2013 The 32nd English Disabled Sports Team Championship

The Club has again supported the competition that promotes team spirit and achievement with the ideal that taking part is the most important aspect. We sponsored the Pitstop competition, won by the team from Leicestershire, who were overall winners.

Fri 8th November 2013 Troop Aid- supporting our injured troops

Remembrance Sunday reminds us all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Troop Aid supports injured service personnel by providing them with the basic essentials. We have supplied some practical support for nearly 5 years.

To a Hallowe'en theme, our Senior Vice President Eric Dance cut the opening ribbon at the new George Department at Asda, Minworth accompanied by Asda General Store Manager David Evans, with the Prince's Trust Apprentices and Asda colleagues.

Tue 15th October 2013 Donation to Asda's Tickled Pink campaign

The Club gave a cheque for £250 to Sue Sneddon from Asda's Minworth store towards their Tickled Pink campaign. Now entering its 17th year, the campaign benefits two breast cancer charities and to date has raised over £30 million.

Mon 14th October 2013 Rotary Special Needs Football Festival

Now in its 16th year, 260 pupils took part at Aston Villa Football Club Academy on 7/14 October 2013. 23 schools entered 36 teams from an area centered on Birmingham and the West Midlands including parts of Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire.

To mark 50 years this year since the release of the Beatles' first album, the Club hosted an evening jointly with Sutton Coldfield Town Football Club, with guest Beatles tribute band 'Help!'. Food and drink from the 1960s were served.

Our annual Charity Fun Day at Wheat's Garden Centre raised £1158 for Good Hope Hospital League of Friends, towards their Bladder Scanner Appeal. Acoustic guitarist Hugh Neake and Black Country comedians Dandy gave an excellent afternoon's entertainment.

While on holiday earlier in the year in Berkshire our Club President Tony met Trevor Iles from Banbury Rotary Club. Tony and our Senior Vice President Eric made a fellowship visit to the Oxfordshire club where they were made very welcome.
